Together with artist Jaasir Linger, TENT presents, in collaboration with OASE, a layered program in which Afro-spiritual music from Suriname and Cape Verde takes center stage.
As part of the Dolf Henkes Prize (part of the 'Rotterdam Art Prizes'), for which Linger was nominated and won, he is developing a series of cross-disciplinary events throughout the city. The third and final event curated by Linger takes place on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at OASE Rotterdam and focuses on ancestors and spirituality.
'Tamboreiras Rotterdam', the female percussion ensemble (of 'Stichting São João Baptista Rotterdam'), will perform traditional Cape Verdean percussion music, and the Afro-Surinamese Winti music group 'Warimbo Krioro' will perform Afro-Surinamese Kabra (ancestor) and Winti music under the guidance of the renowned Winti priestess 'Nana Efua' (Marian Markelo), with 'Nana Efua' providing commentary.
Between the program segments, there is an opportunity to meet at the cultural mini-market, and vegetarian snacks are available from Allakondre Catering.
Anyone who wishes is most welcome to appear in traditional cultural costume.

In his art and films, Jaasir Linger translates Surinamese cultural heritage into powerful narrative images. Additionally, he is active as a speaker and organizer of events (such as lectures and workshops) in the field of Afro-Surinamese cultural heritage, collaborating with various Surinamese heritage foundations and organizations.
Linger aims to contribute to the transfer of knowledge for current and future generations, including regarding Winti – a spiritual tradition that was long surrounded by ignorance and stigma until 1971 due to a colonial ban. With his nomination for the Dolf Henkes Prize 2026, he is organizing a series of cross-disciplinary events with TENT in which Surinamese and broader diaspora cultures from Rotterdam take center stage.
