Conversations on Paramaribo Perspectives
What determines the wider context for Surinamese art? How is Surinamese art production interpreted and recorded? How, in the light of current political developments, are cultural relations between the Netherlands and Surinam influenced? These and other questions are the focus of three panel discussions. Özkan Gölpinar (journalist and Fonds BKVB programme manager) will discuss in depth the Artist, the Discourse and the Context, together with artists, critics and curators. With, among others, artists George Struikelblok, Jeroen Jongeleen, Kurt Nahar, and Sara Blokland; writer, journalist and programme maker Anil Ramdas, former director of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Janwillem Schrofer, director of Fonds voor Beeldende Kunsten, Vormgeving en Bouwkunst, Lex ter Braak, Surinamese writer Marieke Visser; artist/critic Charl Landvreugd, director of Instituto Buena Bista Nancy Hoffmann, and professor of Contemporary Art History, Leiden University, Kitty Zijlmans.
