To make the tenth anniversary of the Rotterdam Art Prize extra festive, all the winners of recent years have been asked to nominate a fellow artist. This means that instead of the usual four contenders, eight artists will show their work in the run-up to the award ceremony in TENT Rotterdam. The winner will take home a cash prize of €12,000. The jury consists of writer/curator Hanne Hagenaars, writer/curator Yasmijn Jarram and artist Toon Teeken.

The winner of the Dolf Henkes Prize 2023 will be announced on Friday, November 10 at 20:30. Come along for this festive moment and raise a glass with us to the tenth winner of the award. With music by Richelle Soigni.

The award ceremony starts at 20:30 hr.
TENT is open as usual from 11.00 in the morning.
Free admission between 18:00 – 22:30 (Kunstavond).

In the same weekend Stiching Henkes, in collaboration with Verhalenhuis Belvédère and Depot Boijmans, presents the program ‘Curaçao is always on my mind / Kòrsou semper den mi mente’. In this presentation six young Curaçaoan artists will show their work, one of which will be acquired by Hogeschool Rotterdam for their new location in Rotterdam-Zuid. Which work this is, will also be announced on the evening of November 10.

About the Dolf Henkes Prize
Rotterdam artist Dolf Henkes (1903-1989) used his work to tell stories about the world around him. He painted the harbor, his fellow people on Katendrecht, the horrors of World War II and the bright landscapes of Curaçao where he sought refuge after that dark period.

The Dolf Henkes Prize is an initiative of the Henkes Foundation and is made possible from the artist’s estate, which is administered by the National Cultural Heritage Agency. Previous winners include Geo Wyeth, Evelyn Taocheng Wang, Katarina Zdjelar, Lidwien van de Ven, Gyz La Rivière, Lara Almarcegui, Melvin Moti, Erik van Lieshout and Jeroen Eisinga.
