Graduation presentation of the Master's degree in Fine Arts at the Piet Zwart Institute, a postgraduate program of the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam. Twelve artists from different countries presented new installations, photos, videos and performances, specially developed for the exhibition space of TENT.
Using their own individual language and interests, the artists flirted with different forms of fiction: imaginary prose, false beliefs taken for granted for their own sake, and unadulterated fabrication. The artworks in this exhibition evoked the idea of the artist as amateur—adventurer, researcher, poet—who digs into the comfortable lies that surround us, and perhaps even unmasks them.
The title of the exhibition, 'If you say something, see something' is taken from the poem of the same name by Charles Bernstein and, with this pun, twists the usual hierarchy of form and content.
The exhibition was curated by Mai Abu ElDahab in collaboration with Guy Ben-Ner.
