With One Eye on the Horizon was the final presentation of the first group of graduates of the Lens-Based Media program of the Piet Zwart Institute, a master's program of the Willem de Kooning Academy. The makers involved responded in a varied way to the crumbling of the once clear boundary between cinema and photography, and at the same time crossed this boundary.
The program Lens-Based Media program explores the possibilities of new (media)forms and platforms – streaming media, gallery installations, mobile phone films, cross-media storylines, database film technologies, site-specific projects and other hybrid forms. The program emphasizes the new possibilities offered by the merging of stills and moving images in a shared digital workflow.
