This summer, the TAA 2014 brings together the best video art from all Dutch art academies and guest country Finland. During the Award Show on Saturday 12 July at 20.00:XNUMX in the Cinerama cinema, a Dutch and Finnish winner was chosen from the nominated clips, films, documentaries and animations.
Jasper Bruijns won with his film Good night the TAA 2014; a residency at HIAP in Helsinki with a working budget of 1500 euros. The Finn Joel Atio won the Best Foreign Film Award with his film Älä itke minua, äitini/Weep not for Me, O Mother. He is offered an artist-in-residence at the artists' initiative Het Wilde Weten in Rotterdam and a working budget of 1500 euros. The audience award went to Lyubov Matyunina for her film Who can be Happy and Free?

All nominated works will be on display at TENT from 13 July to 17 August and will be screened at Gogbot (Enschede), Impakt (Utrecht), Euroshort Film Festival (Gdansk) and Leeds International Film Festival, (Leeds). The TAA exhibition will then be on display from 5 to 21 December at Kuva x Tila Gallery and from March to April 2015 at Gallery Augusta, both in Helsinki.
Host country Finland
Every year, art academy students from a host country compete for the TENT Academy Best Foreign Film Award. Germany, the Benelux, Turkey and Greece have already preceded Finland in this category. Finland has a rich history of video art and produces internationally renowned artists such as Mika Taanila (dOCUMENTA 2012, IFFR 2013 in TENT), and internationally exhibiting young artists such as Pilvi Takala and Erkka Nissinen. In 2012, the International Film Festival Rotterdam paid attention to Mikko Niskanen – the legendary Finnish filmmaker, and to Peter von Bagh, director, artistic director of the Midnight Sun Festival in Sodankyla that he founded together with the Kaurismäki brothers in 1986. At the moment, the Finnish art academy Aalto University School of Art and Design is the first academy to offer a practice-based PhD programme for audiovisual artists. By initiating an exchange between Finnish and Dutch artists, TENT aims to stimulate collaborations, cross-pollinations and international success.
Price
The TAA 2014 winner will receive an artist-in-residence at HIAP in Helsinki and the Finnish winner will receive a residency at Het Wilde Weten in Rotterdam. Both will receive a living/working budget of 1500 euros for the period.

Juha van 't Zelfde (NL/FI)
Juha van 't Zelfde is the artistic director of Lighthouse, a platform for digital culture in Brighton and co-founder of Non-fiction. He has collaborated with De Hallen Haarlem, Stedelijk Museum, Marres, Het Nieuwe Instituut and many international artists. He has also written for De Volkskrant, VICE magazine and Volume on the cultural consequences of developments in technology. His book Dread – The Dizziness of Freedom was published in 2013.
Tellervo Kalleinen (FI)
Tellervo Kalleinen is a Finnish artist and has been working with her partner Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen since 2003. She studied at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. She has exhibited in MoMA (New York), SMAK (Ghent), KIASMA (Helsinki) and TENT (2010). This year the artist duo won the most important Finnish art prize, the Ars Fennica.
Sam Steverlynck (BE)
Sam Steverlynck is a freelance art critic from Brussels. He is a reviewer for De Standaard and a permanent contributor to the art magazine [h]ART. He also regularly contributes to international magazines such as Art Review and DAMn°. He is currently curating the group exhibition 'A Simple Plan' in a private villa in Kruiskerke (with Pierre Bismuth, Istvan Ist Huzjan, Rene Heyvaert, etc.).
Nina Folkersma (NL)
Nina Folkersma is an art historian. As an independent curator she worked for the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Museum Het Domein in Sittard and the SMAK in Ghent. She also writes for Metropolis M, Arts Holland Magazine and various exhibition catalogues. At the moment Folkersma is curator of De Grote Kunstshow in the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, chair of ArtTable Nederland and member of the art committee of the Noord-Zuidlijn in Amsterdam.
