Intergenerational Curses

Poetic reflections by Gyonne Goedhoop, Shari Maduro, Nagila Muller, Zaïre Krieger and Onias Landveld

Video, A Tapestry of a Diaspora

In collaboration with storyteller R V D I N A , Gyonne Goedhoop, Shari Maduro and Nagila Muller reflect on what diasporic life means to them. In ‘Intergenerational Curses’ their words and gestures are interwoven with passages from a live ‘Tapestry of a Diaspora’ event with poets Zaïre Krieger and Onias Landveld. They ask each other what effects they observe of the experiences, world views, norms and values they have inherited from their ancestors. What is the impact of the stories that could not be told? Why do we feel the weight and burden of ideas and narratives we must carry with us, but we don’t necessarily identify with?

The video includes an animation made for a series of texts Onias Landveld wrote about intergenerational transference, which is also part of his theatre performance ‘Kunu’ (2021).
